Version 0.1-3 is Live + Future Plans


New version is finally up! I had the flu for a week which put me significantly behind on my personal goal of having enough for a minor update every week, but I'm back on my feet now, so hopefully I'm on track again soon. 

This update's most obvious change is the inclusion of the first sprite with Fran, and I'm planning on adding the first backgrounds soon so there's something at least vaguely interesting to look at. The prologue is coming along nicely, I'd say it's about 1/4 of the way done? For the most complete path, choose strangers or crowds, then trust Fran. It still isn't any sort of complete experience, but I think that its starting to resemble a game more and more!

Behind the scenes I've mostly finished plotting out the structure of the overall game and put a plan in place for what I can actually accomplish in a reasonable timeframe.

Here's some broad strokes on what the finished prototype/demo will hopefully look like

  • The prologue will have approximately 4 major routes with maybe a couple minor ones which will contain a micro-sized version of what the fuller game will be like.
  • By the end of the prologue you should have a fully built character with their own personality using three different levels of 4+ stats which will change how they speak when you're not in control, how they react to events, their skills and their impulses, etc.! I love the way this system is shaping up as you can get a huge variety of subtle changes that will make playing through multiple times a lot more engaging.
  • Your character will also be kitted out with some intrests in things like sports or reading to give them more flavour.
  • Going into the first chapter the relationship between your character and Fran will be different depending on the choices you made in the prologue and your character's personality, again for replay value.
  • Because the game will function on playing through it multiple times, I've decided to add persistent ends that will allow your character to simply "know" things and let you skip some major challenges or solve problems that open up new routes on subsequent playthroughs. More details on this will be explained at a later date as it only becomes relevant from chapter 1 onwards and doesn't factor too much into the prologue.
